Dry indoor mosaics
The great thing about dry indoor mosaics is that you can use wood as a base, and that means you can put mosaics on wooden tables. Thrift shops, yard sales, and unfinished furniture stores are great sources for tables, but you can also breath new life into old tables you already have on hand.
Surface Prep
The most important concern is preparing the surface so that glue and grout can adhere to the wood. Mostly that means sanding off the varnish and furniture polish.
Many artists recommend resealing the wood with the same PVA adhesive that will be used for mounting the tile so that the wood doesn’t suck moisture out of the grout as it hardens, (which is a process of binding moisture chemically not drying out). I rarely if ever do this because I manage to get enough glue on the surface of the wood while I am mounting the tiles.
WARNING. Never seal wooden mosaic bases with varnish or paint or anything other than the glue you will use. Mosaic adhesives (PVA glues) do not bond to oil-based materials, and these materials are a point of failure when they degrade in the future.

How to do when a Sliding Glass Door That Sticks
If your sliding glass door sticks, it may need a little maintenance. Here are the basic steps:
Remove the sliding door.
Vacuum the tracks.
Use hot, soapy water and a brush to clean the tracks.
Inspect the rollers, and replace them if damaged.
Lubricate the tracks.
Reinstall the doors, and adjust the rollers to the correct height.
Using excessive force to open doors may damage the door or its components, so it pays to be patient as you try these tips! Whether there’s debris in the track or your door has damaged rollers, Glass Doctor has the cure for sticky sliding doors. Below you’ll find more details about how to 1) properly remove a sliding glass door, 2) clean the tracks .
How to Remove a Sliding Glass Door
Before you begin, ask someone to help you. Glass doors are very heavy and fragile. The door may be ready to fall out of the track before you are ready to catch it! It’s smart to have some helping hands for this project.
Begin by locating the adjustment screw covers on the sides of the door, toward the bottom. You may need to pry off or unscrew the covers. Have someone hold the door before you continue the next few steps.
Use a screwdriver to adjust the rollers so they move away from the door, which will give you clearance to remove the door.
Center the door in the middle of the opening.
Stand on the inside while a helper slowly tilts the top edge of the door toward you. If you don’t have clearance, the top rollers need to be adjusted higher.
Gently remove the door and set it aside.
How to Clean a Sliding Glass Door Track
Once the door is removed, it’ll be a lot easier to thoroughly clean the tracks.
Use a vacuum to remove loose debris in the track.
Use a stiff brush with hot, soapy water to scrub the track.
Do the same with the top and bottom edge of the glass door.
Dry the track well with a clean rag.

Flat/Sliced Pebble Mosaic Designs
Rather than round. Flat or sliced pebbles are just that. The pebbles have been cut to create a flat surface in a pebble look.
These flat designs come in pebbles and stone material. The stone material could be marble, travertine or limestone.
We love the look of the Mix Color Pebbles with its great colors. Wouldn't this look nice on a patio or porch? In addition to floors, flat pebbles look terrific on walls.
You can also find decorative pebble mosaics. These are flat or sliced pebbles with a pattern etched on the surface.
The example below - Light Color Fossil Pebbles - is a terrific example. Look at how this really cool etching creates a fossil effect on the tiles, creating an authentic Florida feel.
These can be installed on floors and walls.
Flat pebbles are very popular in showers, walkways and on the walls.

Choosing a Natural Stone for Your Poolside
A pool isn’t complete without the added look of natural stone. Natural stone is a timeless feature that enhances the look of the swimming pool area by giving it a classic feel. When you are considering your options and trying to determine what type of stone to get, keep in mind that granite and quartz are two of the most popular types that most people choose. This is due to the many benefits that each stone offers the customer.
Why Granite?
Granite, a natural stone that requires no manufacturing, has been used in homes for many years and has a look that never goes out of style. Given that it is natural, it has a variety of earth-toned colors that smoothly transition throughout. It is also eco-friendly in that it emits little carbon emissions during its preparation phase. Once sealed regularly, it can last for many years. One of the best features is that it does not reflect heat on a hot day.
Why Quartzite?
Quartzite is another customer favorite because of the uniformity that comes from its solid color. Many believe that this makes it easier to match with other outdoor décor. As an engineered stone, quartzite is easy to maintain because it only requires basic care. Given that it is a non-porous material, it is germ-free, which is a priority for an area where skin may be exposed. It, too, is very durable and can last for decades. Quartzite also stays cool in warm weather.

Pebble Mosaics in Round Designs
Pebble mosaics bring the outdoors in since they are made from actual river rocks which makes them very durable. These mosaics can be used on floors in addition to the more traditional surface for mosaics - walls.
Pebbles are very easy to maintain - just clean them as you would a porcelain tile surface.
What makes them particularly exciting is how fun they are to design with!
You'll find a variety of pebbles to choose from - different color pebbles, different shapes, round designs and flat ones. You'll even find pebbles with inkjet designs (to be used only on walls). The end result is unique to you and unlike any other tile installation.
Round pebbles - how can anyone walk on those? Despite that, round pebbles are very popular for shower floors.
Once you add grout to round pebble mosaics, the pebbles are really soft on the feet.you can choose any number of grout colors to complement or contrast with the pebble design.
You also have a wide range of pebble mosaic colors to choose from.
Pebbles are versatile. You can use them on walls, floors and even outdoors.
Here's a fun use for pebbles... Isn't this outdoor shower design creative?
The rounded black pebbles in a white grout defines a distinct space for the shower;

The modern Traditional kitchen
The modern Traditional kitchen looks deceptively simple. It features clean lines, neutral colors, and lots of light. But that description could also be applied to a science lab. Let's look at some of the details that make your Traditional kitchen an inviting, homey space.
The first elements that make a modern Traditional kitchen are light and space. Now, this can be hard if your kitchen is small, but it can be achieved with the right design features. Paint the walls and ceiling the same color to give the illusion of height. Lighter colors create more space than darker colors and they reflect more light. Take advantage of natural light when possible. If your kitchen has a window, frame it well and allow the sunshine in! It will make your space seem much more open. Make sure that you have adequate light fixtures to fill your space and give your kitchen a more open feeling.
Texture and color go hand in hand. Some cool kitchen chairs with an interesting, textured finish can be upholstered with a bright, colorful fabric or have a seat cushion with an interesting design. Counter top materials can also add texture. A light fixture with a vintage-inspired design brings a traditional vibe to your space. Embrace this new “traditional” design in your kitchen to bring your personality, comfort and style into the heart of your home
What makes the modern Traditional kitchen an inviting space? Color and texture are the keys. Pops of brighter colors can be incorporated lots of different ways. Incorporating elements like glass panes in your cabinet doors allows you to display your dishes as a design feature and is very cost-conscious. Having a back splash made of colorful mosaic tiles will brighten the space. A deep, rich colored marble or granite makes a gorgeous counter top. Having wood-stained elements adds character.

The Importance Grout Choice Can Bring For Your Mosaic
See the photo below to discover what a difference grout choices can make. Each of the four tile sections is identical, with the obvious exception of the grout color. White grout (top) can make tiles seem more spread apart and allow the colors stand alone. Black grout (bottom) draws everything together and makes bright colors pop. However, dark colors can get a little lost in black grout.
The middle sections illustrate how more neutral choices can usually be the safest choices when grouting. It all depends on the project though. Do you have bright colors that will be set off beautifully by black grout? Then be bold, and grout with black! Do you want more contrast and separation between the objects in your mosaic? White may be the right choice then. For all else...gray is my personal favorite.

A Lovely Outdoor Space for Summer
Stone is a natural choice for outdoor decorating. It's durable, elegant and able to blend with any decorating style. Low-maintenance stone adds warmth and character that will delight you for years to come.
Start With A Patio
If you don't have a patio, or the one you have is looking a little the worse for wear, install a stone patio to get an instant upgrade. A stone patio will add elegance, versatility and high resale value to your house. Get started planning now so that your patio will be ready by the time warm weather hits.
Consider A Fireplace
Your indoor fireplace is probably the coziest spot in your home. Now you can recreate that same warm feeling by installing a source of warmth and light in your garden with a fireplace or fire pit. A stone floor seating area will make it even more inviting.
Add Water Features
A water feature adds constant, soothing sound to your garden. You could opt for a pond that attracts wildlife, birds and butterflies, who will appreciate having a water source on hot days. A freestanding stone birdbath with a waterfall feature is another way to add movement and beauty to your outdoor space.
Choose Your Stone
Quartz: Quartz has become a popular choice for countertops, for good reason. It's bright, beautiful and able to withstand all kinds of weather. You can use quartz to surround an outdoor fireplace or fire pit, to create seating benches or to make plant stands.
Granite: Although granite is beautiful and durable, it's not the best choice for an outdoor patio that's going to be subjected to freezing, wet conditions. Granite is a good choice for an outdoor dining table in a covered area, or as your barbecue counter, but be sure to put a stain-resistant sealant on it.
Lucastone Quartz: High-quality engineered stone provides some features that make it even better than natural stone for some projects. You can install it indoors or out, and it provides a uniform look. Lucastone is nonporous and stain-resistant. It's a great choice for for an outdoor tabletop or countertop, because it gives the look of granite but is much lighter in weight and easier to install.
Porcelain: Because it's fired at extremely high temperatures, porcelain tile is one of the strongest paving and building materials available. It's non-porous so it's able to withstand wetness and repel mildew. Porcelain tile comes in a huge variety of colors and styles. Tile is an excellent choice for all your outdoor buildings, from patios to fireplaces.

Mosaic Art Beginners Guide
1. Pick a surface:
Indoor - Plywood or MDF board for wall hangings, vases, pots, backsplashes, wooden boxes, an old table, pretty much anything except the kids or dog.
Outdoor - Cement stepping stones or a cement bench, terracotta pots, cement board for wall hangings, or your car if you don't mind the "eccentric" look. (Avoid anything that will absorb outdoor humidity and warp over time.)
2. Pick a design:
Draw your design onto the surface and be sure to keep it simple...at least a first until you find what works for you. If you'll be using light colored translucent tiles with an adhesive that dries clear, be careful not to place them directly over the lines you've drawn, as the lines will show through the tile.
Consider a background design color that will contrast with the focal point of your design. If you're making dark red flowers with dark green leaves and then use dark blue tiles for your background, it will all blend together. A lighter background will help the vibrant colors of your design jump out!
3. Pick a method:
Direct method - Glue tiles directly to your surface, one at a time. This method is the most popular & recommended for most projects. Your end result will give you a masterpiece that looks handmade, which is probably what you want. You don't want to work you heart out only to have something that looks like it was just mass produced in a factory. (For the purpose of these instructions, I will be referring to the direct method.)
Indirect method - Set tiles in place on a sheet of mosaic mount, face down, before flipping over to place on mosaic surface all at once. This method is recommended for a table top that needs to be smooth. The end result will give you a flush surface.
4. Glue those tiles!
Most mosaic adhesives come in a bottle with a narrow squirt-top. You can choose to put a dot of glue on the back of each tile one at a time, dot your surface as you go, or draw a whole line of glue & work you way across it. It's entirely up to you. If you see too much glue squishing out to the sides of the tiles and filling the spaces between tiles, try using a little less.
ou usually have at least an hour to move tiles around (with some effort, depending on how much time the glue has had to dry). If the glue is really dry, and you just have to reposition a tile, try wedging a flat-head screw driver under one side and giving the end a light tap with a hammer. Keep in mind that the beauty of mosaics is their uniqueness. Don't shoot for perfection! The less perfect it is, the more you'll love it in the end! Tiles that don't lay perfectly flat or in line with each other will play with the light in different ways. This is why the direct method is recommended - your masterpiece will be so much more fun to look at!
5.Time to grout: At least 24-hours after glue has dried.
Grout color is a personal choice. Black grout helps your colors pop, and it's usually my personal favorite. Lighter shades work well too - it all depends on your project.

What Do I Need to Install Glass Shelves?
When your install glass shelves you need:
Once you’ve found the perfect location for your glass shelves, ask yourself how much weight they will hold. Perhaps the type of shelf kit you purchased will answer this for you. Look at the hardware and the wall anchors the shelf came with. If it came with drywall anchors, the shelf will easily hold a few books or interior decorations if you install it on drywall. But if you have plans for potted plants, many books or a heavy rock collection display, you must use anchors that go into the wall studs. In general, a quarter-inch pane of glass that is 24 inches long and 6 inches wide can support 15 pounds with wall stud anchors at each end. Use thicker glass or more anchors to support more weight. Overloading a glass shelf is very dangerous; if you’re worried, consult an expert to prevent disaster.
Glass Shelves Placement
Next, you must decide on the height and placement of the shelves. Consider the height of items you want to display and how easily you want to access them. If you’re displaying fragile decorations, place the shelf out of reach of young ones. Or if there will be a potted plant that needs to be watered frequently, put the shelf at a convenient height. You can use a strip of blue painter’s tape on the wall to get an idea of an appropriate height. Apply a strip of tape (cut to the length of the shelf) on the wall, and take a few steps back or ask for a second opinion before you start drilling into the walls. Make sure the shelf won’t interfere with opening doors or cabinets once installed.

What You’ll Need for DIY Mosaic Projects
To start making your own mosaics, you will need to buy tiles or find materials that you want to use as tiles. Depending on whether you buy prefab mosaic tiles or you want to cut your own, there are some tools and supplies you’ll need or won’t need.
Supplies:
The supplies you’ll need largely depends on the type of tiles you choose, and the base where you intend to build your mosaic. Some will require mosaic glue, while others only need grout. And in some cases, you can forgo grout altogether.
Tesserae: These are your tiles, whether you choose glass, ceramic, porcelain, stone, or found objects.
Mosaic glue: This may be necessary if your tesserae won’t stay put with grout only.
Grout: If you want to fill in the cracks with a cohesive look, you’ll need this product. You can find colored grout, or stain it yourself.
Paint: Use acrylic paint to stain the grout when you mix it if you want a colorful grout.
Tile & grout sealer: You’ll need this to create a seal to protect the grout from stains and the tiles from scratches or other damage.
Tools:
Once again, depending on what type of mosaic or tiles you use, some of these tools will be unnecessary. Most of them are must-haves, though.
Hammer: Use to break large pieces of materials into smaller shards and fragments.
Tile cutter: This is for making clean cuts of ceramic and other materials.
Glass cutter: Specifically, for cutting glass cleanly.
Safety glasses: It’s always important to wear safety goggles when working with sharp objects and chemicals.
Work gloves: To protect your hands when you cut or hammer materials.
Bucket: This is needed for mixing the grout and water when you’re ready for this step.
Stir sticks: Obviously, you’ll need something to stir your grout.
Rags/sponges: After applying grout, you’ll need something to wipe off the excess.

Pros and Cons of Mosaic Tiles in Your Home
As beautiful as mosaics are, they may not be practical in every room of your home. After all, who would want to sit for extended periods on a couch covered in tiles and grout? You’ll have to keep a few things in mind when you choose mosaics to decorate with in your house.
Pros
Trendy: Mosaics are often considered a classic style, but occasionally the look trends upward or downward, like any style. This can increase the value of your home if you get the right buyer who sees the mosaics in your home as a bonus.
Easy to maintain: With all the protective coats and grouting, your mosaic should be easy to care for, especially if you choose glass tiles.
Unique: Good luck finding a mosaic anywhere else that looks exactly like the ones in your home. The very nature of mosaics means they will always have a one -of-a-kind look. Steer clear of the factory-produced sheets of tiles and you’re more likely to keep a unique style.
Affordable: Mosaic can be an affordable option if you choose inexpensive tiles. Glass, ceramic, and natural stone are the most budget-friendly choices.
Cons
Low resale value: Although mosaics can increase the value of your home, there’s also the chance that it affects the value negatively. It really depends on the market, the demographic, and whatever’s currently trending. Natural stone holds its value better than some other materials.
Difficult to clean: Not all mosaics are easy to maintain. Natural stone, for example, requires kid gloves when it comes to cleaning. You may have to purchase a cleaner specifically made for stone.
Easily damaged: Glass tiles can scratch easily, which can affect the overall appearance of your mosaic. Ceramic tiles absorb water easily, and if used outside without the necessary protective coats, it can crack if there’s a freeze in the winter.
Expensive: While some types of tile are affordable, there are plenty of options that might be outside your budget. Porcelain is likely to be pricier than ceramic. Simple glass tiles can be affordable, or more intricate or thicker pieces could be as expensive as quartz, marble, or granite.

How to Choose New Windows Based on Climate
When choosing new windows, it’s important to weigh pros and cons based on your climate. This guide is organized to help you choose the most energy efficient, durable window types for your home.Keep these initial tips in mind:
Avoid single-pane windows. The insulating space in a modern double- or triple-paned window (also called an IGU or insulated glass unit) is more beneficial for climate control.
Outdated metal frames are not recommended. They’re inefficient and require a thermal break.
After you choose windows, professional installation is key to getting a good seal and the highest possible energy efficiency.
Windows for Cold Winter, Hot Summer Climate
Glass Considerations:Choose glass with a low U-factor, and get a low emissivity (low-E) coating, which reflects the sun, reduces glare and provides climate control in all seasons and temperatures.
Frame Considerations:Composite frames hold up better than wood in this climate because they don’t fluctuate in size as the seasons change drastically. They insulate just as well as wood and still look stylish, but they don’t decay as easily.
Vinyl keeps heat out in summer and insulates well in winter. It’s low maintenance and don’t need to be painted.
Windows for Often Warm, Sunny Climate
Glass Considerations:
Choose glass with a very low SHGC (solar heat gains coefficient). Consider a low emissivity (low-E) coating to reflect (rather than absorb) the sun and reduce glare.
Frame Considerations:
Vinyl is great for sunny places because it’s usually made of PVC that stabilizes UV rays. These frames can be insulated to keep heat out, and they don’t require painting.
Wood is a beautiful option if it doesn’t rain much where you live. It’s expensive and requires maintenance, but it’s an energy efficient and stylish option. Vinyl-clad wood is an alternative if you’re worried about too much expansion or decay with humidity.
Windows for Often Cold Climate Glass Considerations:
Choose glass with a low U-factor and a high SHGC (solar heat gains coefficient)
A single or double glaze (i.e., an extra glass pane in your IGU) can cut energy costs in half.
Frame Considerations:
Fiberglass has great thermal performance and is sturdy enough for winter storms.
A strong composite frame, as described above, would also work well.
Vinyl-clad wood insulates well and can handle ice and snow.
Windows for Windy Climate Glass Considerations:
Tempered glass protects windows from accidental breaks during high winds. Find out why you should choose or upgrade to tempered glass.
Be sure to get a modern IGU with two or three panes to cut down on noise.
Frame Considerations:Fiberglass is strong enough to stand up to high winds.
Vinyl is a less expensive option that is still sturdy.
Windows for Rainy or Humid Climate Glass Considerations:Get high-quality insulated glass in a modern IGU, which employs a desiccant inside the panes to keep moisture at bay. Professional installation ensures a sound seal and no annoying fog.
Frame Considerations:
Vinyl holds up well to moisture and any temperature, and it’s inexpensive.
Composite gives a wood look but is better suited for humidity and rain.
There are windows for every climate, and choosing the wrong window type can result in high energy bills – and discomfort!

The introduce of mosaic
The art of mosaic is one of the earliest, and it was discovered in Mesopotamia. Back then, colored stones and shells were used to create patterns and pictures. The art form continued to be used throughout the ages in the Middle East, Europe, and pretty much everywhere else. Maps were made of stone tiles, and people from the Bible were depicted in mosaic forms. Mosaics were as intricate or simple as the artist wanted.
Whether a mosaic adorns the backsplash in a kitchen, the top of a table, the walls of a bathroom, or even the floor. The basic definition of a mosaic is that it’s a decoration of a surface. You could use that same definition for any piece of art, and so the distinguishing feature of a custom mosaic art installment is that it typically uses fragments of tile or stone to create the decoration.
A mosaic can turn up the class in any room, and even when applied to a surface using neutral colors, it adds pop to the area. Most mosaic patterns used on walls let the natural beauty of the stone, glass, or other material shine on its own, but some designs are intricate pieces of art that form flowers, faces, or places.
Today, mosaic designs are still made into detailed images of people, places, and things, or they’re used to create patterns in courtyards, on tabletops, and as backsplashes in kitchens. The only real difference today is that many mosaics are being manufactured. There’s a debate as to whether these computer-created mosaics are still considered art, or even mosaics because they aren’t technically artisanal.

Today’s Hottest Shower Door Trends
If you’re in the market for a new glass shower door, you don’t have to make do with ordinary glass enclosures. You can transform your bathroom into a more beautiful, functional space with a trendy shower door. Take note of the most popular shower door trends of 2018:
Curbless showers and linear drains: For ease of access and a wildly trendy look, consider a curbless shower with a frameless shower door made of transparent or custom-etched glass and a linear floor drain. This combination is taking American bathrooms by storm in 2017! A curbless, frameless shower looks like a completely integrated part of the bathroom, with a transparent enclosure, no ledge to step over, and no obvious floor drain.
Transparent shower doors: Showers from the 90s and earlier tend to have opaque glass. This is good for privacy, but it looks dingy. Modern shower door trends lean toward transparent glass, which provides a sleeker, brighter, more spacious appearance and allows you to show off custom shower tile.
Frameless shower doors: Typical sliding shower doors are hung on aluminum or vinyl frames that have an outdated, boxy look to them. When compared to the sleek showers you see in design magazines and five-star hotels, ordinary shower enclosures look drab and old fashioned. To avoid this, you need a frameless swinging shower door, which eliminates the borders around each panel and gives your shower a seamless, cohesive aesthetic.
Custom glass shower door designs: For the privacy you want without dingy opaque glass, consider a shower door with custom decorative etched glass. You can create any design you want, from geometric squares and stripes to mountain scenery to ocean waves. This makes your shower become a piece of art in the bathroom.
Spacious shower enclosure: Shower/tub combinations aren’t trendy in 2017. If you have space, a freestanding soaking tub and spacious shower enclosure are much more aesthetically pleasing. In the shower, luxurious yet sustainable features, such as a low-flow rainfall shower head, make getting ready each morning a spa-like experience.

Bathroom walls and floors with a mosaic border
There are numerous parts of the bathroom which could be beautified with a mosaic border. Whether you’ve chosen to extend the border to wrap around the floor, hover around the showering area, or to enclose your vanity mirror space, the options are limitless. But one thing to consider is to maintain a sense of unity with the colors that you have chosen.
A bright glass mosaic tile has the potential to add more color, and without overdoing it. There are many different elements to consider, such as glittering glass, or more industrial elements such as metal tiles. More natural choices such as stone, ceramic or porcelain can tone it down a little, to add a subtle effect to its surrounding.
A border will serve well to outline the taps, or even as a standalone element to give more attention to one section of the wall as a feature strip. If you’re aiming to have a border that is there to give a cohesive effect, then go for a thin border. There again, you can increase the border’s area to achieve more presence and further embolden the area that it frames.Needless to say, if you’re installing mosaic tiles in a bathroom, use non-slip porcelain or alternative materials such as natural stone tiles.
You’ll want to complement any design that has already been installed within the tiling of the bathroom, not compete with it. The listello’s patterns might be beautiful as they are, but a noisy border will detract rather than adding to the overall effect. It also helps to be choosy about which area to frame. If you’ve chosen to have a pattern on the bathroom floor’s tiles, then you’re best advised to keep a discreet pattern on the bathroom ceiling, and vice versa.
Glass stones or tiles could lend a very flattering effect to the interior of your bathroom. They add a splash of vibrancy to an otherwise mundane setting and can be skewed in a way to reflect the light emanating through a window. It always pays to have a wide variety of colors as well.

DIY Cabinet Glass Insert Installation
1,Remove doors.
Place hardware (hinges, knobs) in plastics bags and clearly label. Label doors and openings using painter’s tape for easy re-assembly. Watch for and pull any finishing nails. (They will damage your expensive router bit.)
2,Measure.
Remove doors, measuring the width of the groove on the cabinet interior, then the depth of the groove.
3,Mark.
Using your carpenter’s square, mark the interior of the door to the depth of the groove measured above, ensuring equidistance on each side of the rectangle/square.
4,Cut.
For Plexi: Clamp the door to your work surface, and using a circular or jigsaw, cut carefully to the depth measured and marked in the previous steps.
For Glass Installations: Making a guide with straight, smooth plywood or medium density fiberboard (MDF) to allow for the depth of your pattern bit, nail layers together to make guides, positioning them ½-inch from inner edges and clamping firmly in place. Support outer edges with wood strips that match cabinet door thickness. Clamp the door itself in place, then cut the lip with a router and ½-inch pattern bit, typically found at woodworking stores. Adjust cutting depth until bit just touches the panel. Cut away the lips on 2 sides, then reposition guides for the remaining two.
5,Chisel.
Knock corners free with your chisel.
6,Remove the wood.
Carefully pry the wood panel free from the cabinet, applying a few light hammer taps if necessary.
7,Measure insert dimensions.
Your plexi or glass insert dimensions must match your cut glass insert exactly.
8,Cut (or order) glass.
Transfer insert dimensions to your plexiglass. Score it halfway through with a cutting/utility knife, then snap on the lines. For true glass, you will need to order your chosen glass inserts and have them cut to size.
9,Apply caulk or glass clips.
Apply silicone caulk to the inside perimeter of the door frame, or screw in glass clips no farther than 12-inches apart.
10,Insert glass and reassemble.
Carefully insert your chosen glass into the frame, pressing it firmly into place with caulk or securing with glass clips (if glass rattles, a dab of hot glue will do the trick). For plexi, wipe away excess silicone, and allow to dry. Rehang cabinets using the hardware removed in Step 1.

Applying a mosaic tile border to kitchen backplash
Mosaic border designs can do very well to outline the length of a kitchen backsplash. Bear in mind that the backsplash is a prominent section of the kitchen which is the first thing you see when entering the kitchen. Similarly, a kitchen backsplash tends to occupy a large space. As seen from that perspective, it is a good space to manipulate and can be modified with decorative tiles to add a lively effect to your cooking area.
A mosaic pattern on or around the kitchen backsplash will boldly delineate an area, also serving to personalize a space by giving it more definition and presence. The idea is to install a stunning design that will enhance the already pre-existing elements within a space. For example, glass mosaics have the benefit of adding reflective light to an area, and this can lend a lot of charm.
Assuming you feel that the kitchen backsplash has plain tiles, it pays to apply a multi-colored mosaic border to give it more character and punch. Then again, you can also yield an outdoorsy effect to the space, and effectively bring the outdoors back inside by including earth elements such as stones or pebbles.
One thing to bear in mind when using mosaic tiles to accent the borders is that you will have to match the thickness of the mosaics to that of the standard tiles.
If you’ve chosen to DIY the procedure, then be careful about not creating too much of a gap between each set of tiles.

Applying a mosaic tile border to a swimming pool
A beautiful portrait or picture belongs within a frame. Similarly, the varying elements on a wall can appear more beautiful and attractive when neatly enclosed within a mosaic tile border. A charming mosaic tile border does its part to bring out the essence of the different elements on your walls, and all throughout your home.
When applying a mosaic tile border to a swimming pool, you have several options. You can install a single row at the water’s surface level. But you can also have a border extend across the entire pool’s walls, or across its floors.
A going trend these days is to use glass for your mosaic tile border. If you employ quality material, it can last for years at a stretch. It pays to have a unique design that will make the patterns of your pool’s tiles stand out.
There is a vast variety of tile borders which have been pre-designed, and which you can put into effect. You also have the option of custom designing the pattern yourself to better match the already pre-existing patterns on your swimming pools floors or walls.
If manipulated in a clever way, the mosaic tile border can achieve decorative accents that will lend a modernizing effect to the pool. Otherwise, you can apply a more conservative design for a classic effect, to give it more lustre.
You can add more liveliness by using vibrant colors or aim to achieve a shimmering pattern with reflective tiles. A single color pattern will hold the pool together, but a more eclectic mix will give it extra flair. It all comes back to what you’re aiming for – but it can also pay to use a color blending tool before you zone in on your decision.

How to Remove Water Spots from Windows
Before you treat your windows with a product to prevent water spots, you need to clean them first. Here are four methods for removing water spots from windows:
Baking soda and water: Create a paste made with baking soda and a small amount of water. Apply the paste to a cloth and scrub the window vigorously to allow the abrasive granules of baking soda to remove the hard water spots. Thoroughly rinse the glass with water, and then use traditional glass cleaner and a newspaper to remove all residue and streaks from the window.
Lemon: Slice a lemon in half and rub it on the glass with a fair amount of pressure. The natural acidity of the lemon removes hard water stains with ease.
Mop up the lemon juice left behind with a soft cloth or paper towel. Finish with a spray of glass cleaner, and wipe it away with newspaper for a streak-free shine.
Store-bought cleaning products: Commercial cleaners are available with the specific purpose of removing water spots. For the best results, follow the directions printed on the label of the product you choose. Some products aren’t specifically made to clean windows, so they may leave streaks. To avoid this, finish the treatment with a spray of glass cleaner and wipe with a newspaper.
Vinegar and water: Spray the glass with a solution of equal parts water and white distilled vinegar. Be sure to thoroughly saturate the areas with the most prominent buildup. Allow the solution to sit for a minute or two, re-spraying the glass as it dries. Saturate a small, rough towel with the vinegar and water solution, and scrub the glass with the towel. Dry the window with a soft cloth or paper towel, and if you still see water spots left behind, repeat the whole process.

Choose The Best Height For Your Granite Backsplash
Choosing the best height for your granite backsplash is one of individual taste, convenience, decorative sense, cost and logistics.
Standard Height
A shorter, standard 4-inch backsplash is going to be less costly as well as convenient. Adding a small amount of granite to a countertop budget is going to minimally impact what has been budgeted for countertops. The shorter backsplash can also be installed along with the countertops, so no time is lost waiting on tiling and other installations.
There is also adaptability for decorative design ideas with a shorter backsplash, as considerably more wall space will be available to use paint, tile, wallpaper, architectural pieces or other elements to style and enliven the area.
The only downside to a shorter backsplash is that the wall above it is vulnerable to food debris, grease, and other stains, but this problem can be eliminated with the use of a full length backsplash that is placed in back of an oven or range area. The shorter or standard backsplash can still be used in the remaining countertop areas of a kitchen.
Full Height
A full height backsplash will be more expensive than a shorter, standard backsplash, and it will require additional time for installation. Full height backsplashes are also not that easy to remove if a homeowner wants to make decorative changes with tile or other materials.
There is also the possibility of utilizing other types of natural material other than granite for a full height effect. Granite can still be used on the countertops while marble or other natural stone can be utilized for the backsplash. This could get expensive, but it is another way to create both and elongated backsplash and an interesting and novel look for a kitchen space.
Whether you choose a standard granite backsplash or a full height backsplash, your kitchen area walls will stay clean and pristine looking for years, as will your countertops.

Granite Vs.Glass mosaic tiles Vs. Marble
Though it’s not really a competition – marble, granite, and glass mosaic tiles do have their own advantages, disadvantages and best uses. If you are making selections.for your new home’s kitchen, baths and accents or if you are preparing to remodel your kitchen or bath; it is helpful to know which tile works best for floors,counter-tops, wall accents, and all those places where tiles will give beautiful stylish drama to your home.
Granite is actually crystalline, igneous rock, which makes for strong tile. Granite can be purchased in solid slab cuts or in tiles for a less expensive option. Granite’s favorite application is kitchen counter-tops but it can also be used effectively in the bathroom where its thick tough resilience makes it an ideal choice. As a natural stone, granite comes in gorgeous patterns featuring beige’s, blues, reds, greens, yellows, black and white, but trim options can be somewhat limited and sealing is needed to keep it looking its best well into the future.
Glass mosaic tiles are among the prettiest tile offerings with luminescent color and varied shapes and patterns. While glass tiles can be used for flooring (if rated as such and installed properly), their most popular uses are back-splashes and accents in classic tile presentations. Nothing beats glass mosaic tiles for their exquisite beauty and unmatched vibrant diversity, but you should keep in mind, you’ll need a glass mosaic tile installer to get the job done well so you can enjoy your glass tiles for years to come.
Marble is a distinctive natural stone that offers a multitude of colors and exceptional swirling patterns. These diverse patterns make marble tiles look stunning when installed properly. When selecting marble tiles, all of your tiles should come from the same original batch. It’s always a good idea to purchase a few additional tiles to keep for backup. Marble’s most popular use is flooring, but it is also used on counter-tops and in wall applications as well. Marble is porous and must be sealed and cleaned to help prevent staining, scratching and cracking and to maintain its striking appearance for many years to come.

Choosing the right polish that Will Look Amazing on Your Floor
Choosing the right polish is crucial as it will not only determine how much maintenance your floors will need, but can also drastically change the look of them. From the traditional to the uber modern, here are five excellent choices to consider.Whether you are planning to install flooring for the first time or just looking to refinish existing floors, there are some different hardwood finishes to consider.
Hardwood Finish #1: Wax
Hardwood Finish #1: Wax
Wax is essentially the granddaddy of all hardwood finishes as it is the coating that has been used the longest. While it is not as durable as modern poly finishes, it gives your floors a muted, organic feel as opposed to the high-gloss of most modern finishes. Since wax can be reapplied in small areas, it is the most low-maintenance type of finish over the short haul. But, it is more high-maintenance in the long run as it will need to be refinished more often.
Note: If you decide to switch from a wax finish to a polyurethane finish, the wax will need to be entirely removed before the poly finish can be applied.
Note: If you decide to switch from a wax finish to a polyurethane finish, the wax will need to be entirely removed before the poly finish can be applied.
Hardwood Finish #2: Acid-Cured (Swedish)
Often considered the Lamborghini of floor finishes, acid cured finishes are a professional-only floor polish. While they are supposed to be one of the hardiest floor finishes, they are also the most expensive, running between $3.75 to $5 per square foot. While they tend to dry quickly (in around 2 hours), they can take up to 60 days to fully cure. After about three days it is safe to walk on but can take up to two weeks to cure enough to lay furniture on and up to 60 days to put rugs back down so carpet fibers don’t become stuck in the finish.
Hardwood Finish #3: Penetrating Oil Sealer
Oil sealers are another more traditional finish, like wax. Oil is easy to apply but is not as durable as a poly finish. It also has a mellower sheen than poly finishes,so it’s a good alternative for those that like the look of wax, but not the labor of applying it. Since the oil penetrates the wood, it can also deepen the color, giving your floor a rich, beautiful finish.
Hardwood Finish #4: Moisture-Cured Urethane
Hardwood Finish #4: Moisture-Cured Urethane
Moisture-cured urethane is considered one of the hardest finishes available, but also has one of the highest VOC’s. Because it dries so fast, it’s difficult to apply,so it’s not recommended for DIY’ers. Also, because of the high VOC’s – which means fumes can last for weeks – respirators and proper ventilation are must-haves during application; you will also need to plan on vacating your home for at least two weeks following application.
Hardwood Finish #5: Polyurethane
There are two types of polyurethane to choose from: water based and oil based. Water based poly is more expensive but dries much more quickly and is easy to apply.
Water based poly is also low odor and low VOC, while oil based poly has a strong smell and high VOC but also is far more durable. Water-based poly also has an excellent reputation for being far more eco-friendly than oil based and also dries clear, where oil-based poly dries with a slight amber tint. If you want a high-gloss, durable, long-lasting finish, then either oil or water-based poly is probably your best option.

Contrast Marble to Achieving High Design
There are many design tools and techniques to help you achieve a high end look.Once you have your project goals identified and a clear understanding of what you want to highlight or what you want to hide, designing with contrast is a very effective tool.
When we think of contrast we often think of color, but designing with contrast encompasses a whole range of options that goes far beyond just color. There is contrast of hard and soft textures, shiny and matte reflective surfaces, large and small scale, and contrast of shapes. But don’t just stop there, think outside the box; the pairing of elegant and everyday objects, modern and traditional pieces, repetition and patterns. These are all pairings of contrast and when done right can elevate your interior and exterior spaces into high design.
Contrast in shape and texture opens up a lot of possibilities. The curving lines of the furniture and the contrasting colors really focus the design but the Ital Bar-On feature wall is a show stopper; The polished concrete formed to resemble soft draping fabric is just stunning.
And finally both contrast in color and scale. The polished Marble floors provide the perfect backdrop to this stunning interior space.

Glass Mosaic Tiles for Bathroom
Glass Mosaic Tiles are uniquely beautiful. Depending on your selection – they do tend to be a bit more costly than most other tiles. They also need specialized
installation procedures so be sure to use a professional installer that has experience working with glass mosaic tiles. No other tile can give you the unique
luminescence of glass mosaic tiles, the vast array of distinctively vibrant colors or the multitude of shapes and sizes.
Imagine using your favorite glass mosaic tiles set into classic tiles for your shower surround in a single vertical accent from ceiling to floor (in a complementary color or a contrasting color –whatever your style). The glass mosaic tile accent will make your bathroom look uniquely couture. How about installing a horizontal glassmosaic tile accent stripe all the way around the shower – you simply choose the width you like and where you’d like your accent to go on the wall. Beautiful! An accent stripe or a diamond design added to your tiled soaking tub surround or your tiled floor will add a bit of stunning glamour to your bath.
Glass Mosaic Tile – uniquely beautiful and the perfect accent to add drama and style to your bathroom, while keeping you perfectly on budget!
If budget is a concern on your project, a designer accent wall, a full shower surround or a glass mosaic tile floor may simply be out of the question. But if you still want to add the matchless look and style of glass mosaic tile to your bath, you may want to consider using it to less expensive traditional tiles. It is the perfect option if you are on a budget and truly adds a striking accent to any application.
As a bonus to your budget, with small accent-type applications, you won’t need an expert to do the installation, saving you even more. And even better, glass mosaic tiles are easy to cut to size for your application. You can also easily install them horizontally, vertically, and cut it into small accent shapes.

How to design your perfect outdoor space
Designing an outside kitchen or an entertainment area has its own design challenges; the natural elements, product durability, and your overall design goals all come into play. Fortunately, there are a ton of options available to help you design that perfect outdoor space.
One design trend we absolutely love is the seamless integration of your interior and exterior living areas. Blurring the lines from one to the other maximizes the look of your design while achieving a strong cohesive point of view. Choosing complimentary products or those that work in both interior and exterior applications is the key.
Many porcelain lines have both interior and exterior options. For example, Landstone has tile for inside and the same colors in a grip finish for outside use. Cross Wood and Vesuvius have similar choices with the added benefit of 2CM porcelain paving options.
There are some additional challenges involved when selecting countertops for exterior applications. The Impact of ambient hot and cold temperatures and the influence of UV light are added factors to consider in addition to scratch & heat resistance, absorption ratio and overall durability. For this reason, engineered quarts and many recycled glass countertops are not recommended for exterior installations due to the resin used in the manufacturing process which will yellow in UV light and extreme heat conditions. Natural stone and other manmade products are popular countertop choices.
For flooring, there are a number of natural stone and porcelain options. When choosing natural stone select tiles in the same color tone. For example, a polished or honed corsica cream marble pared with a brushed shells reef coral stone blends together to create a consistent color palate. Another option, it to choose a natural stone available in multiple finishes, such as polished, honed, leathered or brushed. Remember natural stone allows you to customize your order. So if you find that perfect stone, you can always special order it in the finish of your choice.

Granite Countertops VS. Quartz Countertops
Quartz,is an “engineered” stone, meaning a manufacturing plant uses various grades and sizes of quartz crystals and mixes them with resin and pigment (for color) in a ratio of 93% quartz to 7% resin(yes, we’ll still refer to quartz as natural stone, but it’s not as natural as granite). Fabricators create quartz countertops in much the same way as they do granite countertops: by cutting the shapes from the slab and then profiling and polishing the edges.
Granite—a natural stone—is indeed 100% natural as it is quarried directly from the earth in large blocks. These blocks are then sliced into slabs and polished on one side at the quarry before being shipped to the broker or fabricator. Fabricators cut shapes from the slabs according to your countertop specifications. They then profile and polish the edges.
Here’s a comparison of the two products on five key points, with a summary recommendation at the end.
1. Which One Is More “Natural”?
Both countertop materials are overwhelmingly made of a natural product, but one comes out slightly ahead:
Granite: 100% natural. Slab granite counters are sliced from quarries, cut to size, and honed down until they are smooth.
Quartz: 97% natural. Prominent quartz countertop makers note that 93% natural quartz aggregates are mixed with the remaining 7% of color pigments and polymer resins. The resins bind the particles together.
2. Cost
Quartz used to be more expensive than granite, but things have changed somewhat recently. With advances in technology and production methods, both quartz and granite are now closely priced. Granted, you may come across some rare exotic slab of granite that was unearthed in a remote Brazilian jungle during a lunar eclipse, but for the most part, the cost is a non-factor.
3. Durability
Quartz: Engineered stone has the flaws engineered out. You will not find invisible striations just waiting to crack open someday, as you will find with slab granite. Due to the presence of the resins, quartz counters are less prone to staining.
Granite: Natural slab granite, for all its beauty, has flaws and imperfections that homeowners either love, accept, or hate. Granite stains if subjected to red wine.
4. Maintenance
Stone, whether natural or engineered, seems like it should be maintenance-free. Not so. Both materials require maintenance, with granite requiring more than quartz:
Quartz: Quartz does not need initial or continued sealing.
Granite: Granite needs to be sealed upon installation, and then again on a regular basis.
